Rooftop park designs chosen for Bucharest scheme
A new 8,500sq m (91,493sq ft) leisure development in Bucharest, Romania, is set to feature a rooftop park after designs put forward by architects ColladoCollins were selected for the scheme.
The London-based firm was selected following a design competition for the new complex, which is being developed by Tiriac Holdings and is set to include a beach resort, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and tennis courts. A fitness club, a spa, four restaurants and an ice-rink are also earmarked as part of the scheme, which will be surrounded by an oak forest on the outskirts of the city and will form part of a wider residential scheme.
Jonathan Collins, partner at ColladoCollins, said: "The site sits in the middle of a beautiful woodland and will be the hub to a new residential development. It occurred to us that the overall concept is like an inversion of Central Park, with development sitting within an island in the middle of the forest. "The concept is based upon an inversion of this idea with this new building bringing some of the woodland into the heart of the development, creating a connection between the site and the surrounding environment and bringing uninterrupted outdoor space back into the project."
