Sale and leaseback deal for Le Méridien Barcelona
Le Méridien Hotels and Resorts has announced the sale and leaseback of its 5-star Le Méridien Barcelona.
The 208-room hotel has been sold to Germany-based fund manager, Deka Immobilien Investment.
Since September 2002, the hotel, which fronts the Ramblas, has been undergoing a EUR20m refurbishment of its ground floor and this will now be extended to include the meeting rooms and remaining bedrooms - work will start in November and should be completed by the end of 2004.
This is the first hotel to be sold in the second stage of Le Méridien's sale and leaseback programme which began with the sale of nine UK properties to Royal Bank of Scotland.
The company is currently seeking offers for its hotels in Madrid, Rome, Amsterdam, Malta, Milan and Sardinia.
