A huge street procession will take place at The Grand Parade in Skegness tomorrow to make clear to the public that the resort is open for business despite the recent fire that ripped through the promenade.

The event has been organised by the Skegness and District Chamber of Commerce, together with East Lindsey District Council and local hospitality groups.

Skegness Town Council has released an announcement saying, “Even though recent events have been a great shock to everyone here, the vast majority of Skegness is unaffected by the fire and the town as whole is open for business as usual.”

The Parade leisure complex at The Grand Parade in the centre of Skegness was destroyed when a major fire broke out at 11pm on Thursday 16 August.

Around 200 firefighters from all over Lincolnshire were called in to tackle the blaze throughout the night, in which no one was injured.

Lincolnshire County Council immediately blocked off all access roads to the affected area and cordoned off a stretch of the Grand Parade between the clock tower and Scarborough Avenue in order to safeguard holidaymakers and to allow a full forensic investigation into the cause of the fire – thought to have started at the Lucky Strike arcade and Buster’s Fun Pub – to be carried out by Lincolnshire Police.

The inferno destroyed nightclubs, amusement arcades and restaurants, including Henry’s Wine Bar (formerly The Beach) and Desire (formerly The Library), as well as the Grand Hotel located behind the arcade and the nearby ex-servicemen’s club.

The Parade reopened only a few months ago following a major refurbishment.
