Sleeping pods open in London
Shed – a private members’ club near Bank Station in the City of London – has opened under the joint ownership of former Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein banker Richard Walker and ex-Chase de Vere CEO Nigel Mitchell.
Designed by Eldridge Smerin, Shed features a drawing room, a library, a restaurant and a bar but, uniquely, also offers two private sleep pods – dubbed Zzed Sheds – where members can work, relax, or even take a nap.
The single-occupancy, 2x2m (6.5x6.5ft) sleep pods have an open and contemporary design, featuring leather-upholstered daybeds and extendable lights designed by Herzog and de Meuron. A pre-programmed ipod provides easy-listening music.
Shed plans to launch another members’ club in London within a year. Membership costs £625 a year plus an initial £175 registration fee. Details: www.shedlondon.com
