Sport England announces four-year funding plan
Sport England has announced its plans to improve the grassroots of English sport by investing £315m in 32 sports over the next four years.
The package follows the recommendations of the National Investment Panel and will be delivered on the basis of each sport meeting participation, success and modernisation targets.
The investment spans grassroots to international elite sport performance and will focus heavily on developing the infrastructure of clubs, coaches and volunteers.
Roger Draper, chief executive of Sport England, said: “This funding is fully matched to our reform agenda across the world of sport.
“It is critical not only to create a more active and successful sporting nation, but also to ensure that we produce a pipeline talented athletes on the international stage.”
The five sports to receive most funding over the next four years are football (£57.8m), cricket (£18.4m), rugby union (£17.3m), tennis (£16.5m) and badminton (£16m).
Each sport was allocated its level of funding by taking in to account its business plan and the targets the sport had set in order to increase participation and achieve international success.
