TGI Friday’s triumphs at training
In a Financial Times report on the 50 Best Workplaces in the UK, the Whitbread-owned TGI Friday’s restaurant chain was named the fourth most fun place to work and the fifteenth Best Workplace in the UK.
The ranking improvement has been attributed by TGI Friday’s to its continued success with both its recruitment policy – which is primarily based on personality – and successful training methods which have improved staff retention and sustained improvement in performance.
Morning and afternoon shift work at TGI Friday’s always begins with a 15 minute shift meeting which incorporates fun training activities to motivate and encourage team building, while continued training is actively encouraged at all levels of management – including general manager.
Another key element of the training programme is a system of recognition: there are 40 different kinds of badges measuring capability and knowledge that are awarded to members of staff to wear on their braces.
A spokesperson for TGI Friday’s said: “It has been essential to invest time and resources to ensure the continued growth and active support of all employees. This has meant providing ongoing opportunities to develop knowledge and skills as well as recognising achievements.
“This balance has enabled individuals to excel and to challenge themselves beyond their own personal expectations, creating a real sense of personal fulfilment. You can be anything you want to at Friday’s.” Details: www.tgifridays.co.uk
