Tourism minister gets transported
The recent reshuffle of government ministers has seen Kim Howells promoted from his post at the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.
The former Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State and Minister for Broadcasting and Tourism is now Minster of State for Transport.
His position as tourism minister will be taken over by Lord McIntosh of Haringey, 70, who was previously the official spokesperson in the House of Lords for the Secretary of State for Scotland.
A spokesperson for the DCMS said they foresaw no great changes following the change of minister and that "his lordship will be continuing where Mr. Howells left off."
Elsewhere at the DCMS, former education secretary, Estelle Morris – who quit because she said she felt she wasn't up to the job – rejoins the government as Minster of State for the Arts.
Of her new position she is quoted as saying: "I don't have a hugely strong background in this so it will be a huge challenge".
Morris replaces Baroness Blackstone, who resigned from the post.
