Tower of London to open ice rink
This winter, the dry moat beneath the Tower of London will be transformed into a 1,000sq m (10,750sq ft) real-ice rink for the first time.
The Tower of London and Historic Royal Palaces – the charity which manages the medieval castle and former prison – have teamed up with PWR Events to install and run the £300,000 facility.
The ice rink – which has a capacity of 250 people per hourly session – will open on 19 November for seven weeks. There will be 10 pre-bookable sessions a day. Tickets providing entry to both the ice rink and the 940-year-old Tower – a designated World Heritage site – will be available.
Although the Christmas period is one of the Tower’s busiest, it is hoped that new audiences will be attracted from London and the UK, as most visitors to the Tower are currently from North America.
For the third year running, PWR Events will also be operating an ice rink at Hampton Court Palace, from 3 December. Details: www.toweroflondonicerink.com
