Tretower Court reopens
Welsh heritage minister Alun Ffred Jones has formally reopened Tretower Court near Crickhowell in the Brecon Beacons.
The move follows a major two-year conservation programme at the site by heritage body Cadw, which included the renewal of the stone tile roofs and the replacement of timber screens on the ground floor of the west range. Further developments have seen the introduction of colourful textiles, room furnishings and striking furniture designs aimed at complementing the interior of the building, plus the re-creation of its medieval garden.
Tretower Court and castle date back to Norman times, although the current structure was developed by Sir Roger Vaughan in the mid-15th century. The Vaughan family sold it in 1783 and the building gradually deteriorated until being taken over in the 1930s for restoration. It is now in the care of Cadw.
