UK Athletics winners announced
The winners of the annual UK Athletics Club Awards have been announced, celebrating best practice in the sport across the country.
Nearly 300 representatives from clubs and the sport of athletics attended the awards ceremony, which saw Marshall Milton Keynes regain the title of club of the year.
Following another successful year both on and off the track, the club recently secured sponsorship from Marshall Amplification for another six years, until 2012.
Sale Harriers Manchester took the club innovation award for 2006 – which was accepted with a tribute to club secretary Frank Starkie who passed away earlier this year.
Starkie led work on plans for the Playing For Success initiative – a dedicated learning centre delivered in partnership with Manchester City Council – for two years.
The Perivale Park Athletics Track in Ealing won facility partnership of the year. The track, which is run by Active Ealing, is a base for numerous schools and athletics clubs.
Alan Potts of the City of Glasgow won volunteer co-ordinator of the year for his work managing the 1,500 young athletes who performed in the UK School Games in Glasgow.
