University of Wales to run leisure manager course
The University of Wales Institute in Cardiff is to run a new course in Leisure Facility Management from September this year.
Aimed at attracting prospective leisure managers, the course will be the only one of its kind in Wales and enable 30 students to study and train across degree, HND and HNC level. Incorporated into the course is a strong element of work experience, allowing students to gain 'hands on' expertise whilst completing their studies.
Programme director Paul Jennings says the course can respond to the demand for industry managers: The growth in both leisure and tourism industries has highlighted similar growth in the demand for effective leisure and tourism facility managers. The mix of local attractions and leisure facilities in and around South Wales means that no other provider of this type of course can offer this added value.
The Institute hopes that the course will enable more highly qualified, aware graduates to make the step straight into leisure management.
