Wakefield pool plans set to be submitted
Wakefield Council has confirmed it is poised to submit plans for the development of the city's new multi-million pound swimming pool in late March or early April.
Located at the Sun Lane site in the heart of Wakefield, the project is expected to cost between £10-11m and is set to boast an eight-lane, 25m pool, a 13m x 7m learner pool and a 130-station fitness suite. A multi-use activity studio, a health suite with spa bath, steamroom and sauna, a 200-capacity spectator viewing area and a café also form part of the plans, which have been drawn up by NPS Group.
Drivers Jonas is project managing the development, which has been shaped following a public consultation held towards the end of 2009 that drew around 250 responses. Denise Jeffrey, the council's deputy leader and cabinet member for sport, said: "We wanted to give people the opportunity to have their say on this important project and I'm glad to see people did."
A Changing Places toilet and changing facility will be provided as part of the new centre, which is designed for people with profound and multiple learning and physical disabilities.
