Work begins on Caister school facility
Work has got underway on a new £1.4m multi-purpose sports hall at Caister High School near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, which will serve both the school and local community.
The new facility, which is scheduled for completion in September, will cater for a range of sports, including trampolining, badminton, basketball and volleyball, as well as football, cricket, netball and indoor bowls. Designed by Great Yarmouth-based architects, Art-Tech Design Services, the facility has received a £600,000 grant from Norfolk County Council, and the school is hoping to attract local sponsorships or contributions to make up the rest of the funding.
It is intended that the sports hall will be used outside of school hours by the local community. The school's headteacher, George Denby, said: "As part of the school philosophy, it will be open for community use evenings, weekends and holidays."
