Work begins on £10m Welsh pool

Work is underway on Wales' £10m National Pool in Swansea, which is the first phase in the development of a national sports village. Construction company Shepherd has been charged with building the 50m, 8-lane pool which will be dedicated to performance swimmers at national level, while also providing the university and local community with first-rate swimming facilities. Additional features include a central boom enabling the pool to be divided into two smaller pools of 25m and 23m with a moveable floor in the shorter pool, a sports science laboratory, and a treatment room. The existing pool will be converted into a fitness gym in the project due to open in October 2002.
