Work to resume on Oswestry leisure centre
Work is to resume on the £7.5m Oswald Park Active Lifestyle Centre in Oswestry, Shropshire, after a new contractor was appointed last week.
The Northern Ireland-based Graham Construction was awarded the contract after the Shrewsbury-based Frank Galliers - who started work on the project in March 2009 - had to leave the project due to financial difficulties in January 2010.
The scheme consists of a leisure complex including a 25m swimming pool and training pool, plus a fitness suite, various public areas and a suite of management offices.
Graham said it hopes to move on-site in August 2010, with completion expected during spring 2011.
Oswestry Borough Council, together with Sport England, is funding the scheme, and is also looking to create new football pitches, a multi-use games area and a BMX park as part of future developments at the centre.
