Workplace health programmes
Employers across all industry sectors should do more in getting the nation playing more sport, according to Sport England.
Findings from the Well@Work programme, funded in part by Sport England, show that employer-led workplace health programmes have a significant impact on people taking part in organised sport.
The pilot initiative, which involved 32 public and private workplaces reaching 10,000 employees, resulted in 80 per cent of participants increasing their involvement in sport and recreation.
The most popular events organised during the Well@Work scheme included team-based sports and 'come and try' sessions.
Mihir Warty, director of policy at Sport England, said: "We invested £647,000 in the Well@Work project and these are positive findings.
"Sport has an important role to play in creating a healthy and active workforce. We would encourage all employers to consider including sport in any healthy workplace initiatives for their staff.
