énergie set for 'rapid' Middle East expansion
Health club operator énergie Fitness is poised for a QAR100m (£17.7m) roll-out throughout the Middle East and North Africa under plans backed by GSSG Holdings.
GSSG, the Middle Eastern master franchise owner of the chain, plans to open three sites: Barwa Clubhouse and Landmark, both in Qatar; and at Cairo, Egypt - the first énergie club to open in North Africa. The énergie club at Barwa opened its doors earlier this month and is the first Fit4less branded club to open in the region. Two clubs at Landmark - one for men and another for women - are due to launch on 1 November.
Elsewhere, the proposed Cairo club is due to open on 1 December, with work complete on all three venues' exterior. Internal fit-out work has now commenced at the sites. énergie chief executive Jan Spaticchia said: "We only opened our first fitness club in the Middle East in February this year and by the end of 2010, we will have five - including the stunning énergie Villagio."
