Developers have submitted an outline planning application for a leisure development in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

Jointly developed by Benchmark properties under a development agreement with Scarborough Borough Council, the scheme will centre around a futuristic dome-covered water park. Other features include a hotel, health and fitness club, restaurants, retail and self-catering holiday accommodation.

The scheme will occupy 50 acres of land at North Bay in an area known locally as Northstead Manor, which is adjacent to Peasholm Park. Benchmark expects to receive planning consent by mid-2003. Knight Frank and Donaldsons are joint letting agents.
