£5m youth centre opens in Aston
A new multi-million pound youth centre with a range of sporting facilities has opened in Aston, Birmingham.
The new facility is designed for young people between the ages of 13 and 19 and features a four-court sports hall and a dance studio.
A music area is also on offer including a recording studio and business enterprise units.
Birmingham Youth Service secured the funding for the project from the myplace programme to develop world-class youth facilities in disadvantaged communities in Birmingham.
The ground floor of the centre houses IT rooms, social areas, a café and an advice centre.
Birmingham-based firm Associated Architects were appointed to design the building that will serve the Aston, Lozells and Newtown communities.
The aim of the centre is to promote "youth collaboration, celebrate diversity, challenge gang affiliation and religious and local conflicts in the community".
