1,340 applications for Arts Council funding
Arts Council England (ACE) has revealed that around 1,340 arts groups have applied for funding as part of its new National portfolio programme.
The application process closed at 10am on 24 January, with the new system scheduled to come into effect from April 2012. National portfolio funding will replace the Regularly Funded Organisation system, which currently funds 850 organisations across the country.
All bids will now be judged against ACE's published criteria and it is anticipated that the funding agency will announce its decisions on 30 March. ACE chief executive Alan Davey said: "The number of applications illustrates the value arts organisations place on public funding.
"We are confident that at the end of this process we will have a portfolio of excellent organisations with either an outstanding track record of achievement or outstanding potential."
