AU$7m holiday park opens in Victoria
Australian holiday park operator BIG4 has opened a new AU$7m (£3.9m, €4.3m, US$6.4m) site on the Bellarine Peninsula at Marcus Hill, Victoria, following six years in development.
Facilities at the new BIG4 Bellarine Holiday Park include an indoor swimming pool complex, soccer and Aussie Rules pitches, a bocce pitch and croquet lawn, basketball and netball rings and go karts, as well as an adventure playground. The park also includes a television and video room, a water playground, bicycle hire provision and conference facilities, while accommodation options include a range of holiday cabins and motorhome, caravan and camping pitches.
It is expected that the Bellarine Holiday Park will attract more than 10,000 visitors each year, generating a further AU$2.6m (£1.4m, €1.6m, US$2.4m) for the regional economy. Tourism Victoria's chief executive, Gregory Hywood, said: "This new holiday park will be instrumental in creating jobs and boosting the economy. The local economy will benefit from visitors who will dine at restaurants and cafés, buy local produce and support shops in the region."
BIG4's Tim Bone added: "While many other operators are unlikely to be spending money on new facilities in this current economic climate, our park represents a significant investment in both Australian and Bellarine Peninsula tourism."
