Abacus Makes Light Work of Lords Installation
Abacus Lighting is well on track to complete the installation of permanent floodlighting at Lords cricket ground in time for the opening ceremony of the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20 tournament in June 2009.
The second of four telescopic floodlighting masts has now been erected at the world famous cricket ground. Paul Wilson, UK Sales Director at Abacus, said: "The process has been fraught with challenges but, with our commitment to product development and our expertise in tackling complex planning issues, these have been overcome and the result is an installation which is unique to UK cricket."
Abacus is also installing four of the patented telescopic masts at The Oval. The masts will telescope up to 47.6 metres high and will greatly enhance the venues' appeal for both day and night matches.
With both Lords and the Oval situated in residential areas, Abacus had to overcome strict planning regulations. The masts will telescope down to less than 30 metres when not in use and, at the end of the season, the 8m x 6m head frames can be removed and stored, thereby further reducing their visual impact.
