Active Luton received three prestigious accolades at the Jobcentre Plus Awards on Tuesday 20 July, for their outstanding work in helping local job seekers back into employment.

The judging panel received in excess of 70 entries and recognised the achievements of the Luton Charitable Trust. The company was honoured to receive awards in three of the five available categories; being named as Winner of 'The Youth Employment', 'Diversity in Action' and 'Skills Development' Awards. Other shortlisted organisations included Luton Borough Council, The West Essex Partnership and the retail giant Waitrose.

The showcase event, held at Pleasure Hills Theme Park in Lowestoft recognised employers who have helped change peoples' lives and made a vital contribution to the local community, through a successful working relationship with Jobcentre Plus.

Active Luton has worked closely with the local Jobcentre Plus to set up opportunities for young people through the Future Jobs Fund initiative. Terry Nicholls, Active Luton's Business Development Manager said: "The programme offers young people the opportunity to gain valuable work experience, improve their confidence and learn new skills giving them a head start in future career opportunities." He added, "The whole process has proved invaluable."

The Skills Development Award recognised Active Luton for its work in encouraging and developing staff skills across the business. The third award, 'Diversity in Action', reflected the contribution Active Luton has made in employing staff of different ages, abilities and backgrounds, representative of the make-up of the local community.

Helen Barnett Chief Executive of Active Luton said: "We are delighted to be recognised in such a way. As an organisation we are proud of our employees and committed to investing in their continued development."
