Active leisure sector leaders and politicians preparing for ukactive Summit
Key players and leaders of the UK's active leisure sector are preparing to attend the annual ukactive Summit, to be held at the Congress Centre in central London this week (Thursday 7 November).
Representatives from across national and local government agencies will also be in attendance at the sold out summit, considered the sector's leading political event.
The summit will be the first time that Jane Ellison MP will make a speech in her role as public health minister.
Other speakers include Andy Burnham, the shadow secretary of state for health; Mandy Ayres, access to sport director at Nike; Liz Lowe, the CSR Manager of Coca Cola GB; and former Paralympic champion Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson.
Meanwhile, ukactive is expected to announce details of the largest report on inactivity ever comprised in the UK, due to be published in early 2014.
Commenting on her forthcoming speech at the summit, public health minister Jane Ellison said: "I look forward to working with ukactive and its member organisations to promote active lifestyles, to increase participation in sport and physical activity and, ultimately, to help people live healthier lives."
ukactive CEO David Stalker added: "Improving the health of the nation - and tackling the crippling problem of inactivity - is everyone's business and we are welcoming more than 400 people to the flagship policy event of the year."
Delegates and the general public can keep up-to-date with the event on the day by following @_ukactive on Twitter or using the hashtag #ukactivesummit.
