Culturespaces is looking to continue the success of its other digital art centres – such as the Atelier des Lumières in Paris

Culturespaces has announced that its new digital art centre, Fabrique des Lumières, will open in Amsterdam on 22 April 2022.

Located in the historic former gas plant of Westergasfabriek – built in 1885 by the Imperial Continental Gas Association – the cultural attraction will use "cutting-edge technology" to create immersive exhibitions devoted to some of the most celebrated figures in art history.

The venue has a total surface area of 2,800sq m and its exhibitions will be designed to complement the unique architecture of the site, with its seventeen-metre-high walls.

In addition to the immersive exhibitions that focus on classical and modern artists, an area will be devoted to the exhibition of contemporary art.

The attraction will be managed by Culturespaces, which is looking to continue the success of its other digital art centres – such as the critically acclaimed Atelier des Lumières in Paris, France, which opened in 2018.

Since opening in Paris, France, in 2018, Atelier des Lumières has attracted more than three million visitors to experience digitized works of art created by artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Gustav Klimt, and Salvador Dalí.

Bruno Monnier, President of Culturespaces, said: "‘Following the creation of our digital art centres in France, we are pleased to create this new one for the City of Amsterdam. The Fabrique des Lumieres will offer visitors of Netherlands an unforgettable immersive and sensorial artistic experience.’

Created by Monnier in 1990, Culturespaces became one of Europe's first private operators to manage national monuments, museums and art centres.

Its first contract, secured in 1990, was to manage the Palais des Papes in Avignon.

In 2012, Culturespaces opened its first digital art centre and has since specialised in digital immersive exhibits.

In 2020, Culturespaces opened what it calls the largest digital art centre in the world – the Bassins de Lumières in the heart of a submarine base in Bordeaux, France.
