Anti-Gravity Treadmill investment at Life Leisure Avondale Health Hub
The AlterG anti-gravity treadmill has arrived at Life Leisure Avondale and is to become a permanent fixture at the Health Hub following a successful trial earlier this summer.
Developed at NASA, the world's most advanced treadmill allows users to run or walk at a significantly reduced bodyweight of up to 80 per cent, enabling people to exercise who previously would never have thought it possible.
The AlterG is the only 'unweighting' device that allows a user to exercise at a reduced body weight, or 'to train without the pain'.
Initially only available at exclusive clinics and clubs such as Manchester United and Chelsea, the Alter G has a proven track record in aiding rehabilitation after injury, improving gait for neurological conditions as well as significantly reducing impact for people who wish to lose weight but are limited by joint pain and mobility.
Michelle Childs, Physical Activity Development Manager at Life Leisure commented: "At the Life Leisure Health Hub we are continuously seeking to develop the programmes we offer, with a focus on people who are affected by health issues and limiting conditions. Alongside the many new programmes at the Health Hub, such as Actilife and Weight Loss Guru, which focus on individuals who prefer not to access a traditional gym, we are constantly seeking to develop our offering to encourage the non 12 per cent to improve their health through physical activity.
"The investment in the revolutionary Alter G machine comes as we aim to make the best technology more accessible to the general public and at a fraction of the cost. We are really excited about the new addition at the centre and hope to encourage more people into physical activity as a result of the benefits of using the Alter G."
As well as providing for the general public, the health hub will be working with local health services and physiotherapists to ensure that as many people as possible can benefit from using the AlterG.
