Arena Leisure progress with Lingfield redevelopment
The £29m redevelopment of Lingfield Park in Surrey is on track to open next year, following its recent topping out ceremony and the appointment of a general manager for the site's new hotel.
The development, which started in May 2008, includes a four-star 116-bedroom hotel financed through a franchise agreement with Marriott International, a golf clubhouse to complement a new 18-hole golf course with a leisure club and spa. The hotel will offer views overlooking the racecourse. Following the topping-out ceremony last month, racecourse operator Arena Leisure has appointed Sean Quinney - formerly of Hertfordshire's Down Hall Country House Hotel - as general manager of the Lingfield Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club.
The development has also included enhancements to the racecourse such as new stable staff lodge, redesigned stables and veterinary unit along with a new horsebox park and entrance. Construction work, being carried out by Kier South East, is expected to be completed in spring 2010 and the project has been part financed through a £23m term loan.
Arena Leisure operates a portfolio of seven UK racecourses including Lingfield Park, Doncaster, Royal Windsor, Folkestone, Southwell, Wolverhampton and Worcester.
