BW publishes plans for property estate
British Waterways (BW) has published a five-year strategic plan for its 2,000 miles of waterway and property estate.
Our Plan for the Future is aimed at helping property and estates professionals to work with the organisation by outlining BW’s development strategy for its waterways.
BW estimates that its portfolio of waterside properties is worth around £450m and that it has spent around £2bn in regenerating the estate during the past 10 years.
James Froomberg, commercial director, said: “Plans for our 200-year-old historic network are not only very exciting and adventurous but also very challenging.
“Our property portfolio provides crucial income for us, and we will make the most of it so that more money can be put back into maintaining and caring for the waterways.”
The booklet includes BW’s major ventures, such as the plans for the 20-acre Wood Wharf venture on the Island of Dogs, east of Canary Wharf in the financial district of London.
BW acquired Wood Wharf in March 2001 and initial plans include a new hotel, 1,500 new homes and a central garden running through the centre of the site with a range of leisure activities around the waterfront.
