Badminton gets mobile in Wales
The Welsh Badminton Union has launched a development plan aimed at providing opportunities for disabled players.
The organisation has teamed up with Prestige Mobility, the Federation of Disability Sport Wales and Sportsmatch Cymru to create a network of national development centres.
Prestige Mobility has provided £12,000 worth of sports wheelchairs as well as £4,000 in cash.
The Sports Council for Wales’ Sportsmatch Cymru has match-funded the scheme and is putting in £15,000.
“The partnership approach to this programme is an excellent example of good practice in sport and of business and sport working together for mutual benefit,” said Sportsmatch chair, Lynn Davies.
Director of Welsh badminton, Lyndon Williams, said: “Both the Welsh Badminton Union and the Federation of Disability Sport Wales are confident the investment will make a massive impact on the development of disability badminton in Wales.”
