Blackpool Pleasure Beach director to retire
Jim Rowland, the group operations director for Blackpool Pleasure Beach, is to retire in December.
Rowland, 63, began his career in 1972 as manager of Morecambe Pleasure Park – which he renamed Frontierland – and climbed the ranks there before moving to Blackpool in 1991.
He featured heavily in the BBC’s 1998 documentary about the park and was honoured at this year’s Blackpool Tourism Awards.
Amanda Thompson, managing director of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, said: “Jim worked closely alongside my father Geoffrey for many years and has continued to be a friend and colleague to the whole family.
“It’s a huge loss to the Pleasure Beach to see him go, but his insightful contributions to the park and the amusement industry as a whole will remain for many years to come.”
Rowland will continue in his role overseeing the day to day running of the park until 20 December.
