Enlight Media, one of China's largest publicly-traded media groups, has revealed plans to create a vast movie-themed park in the city of Yangzhou.

Covering an area of 651 acres (2.5sq km), the CNY16.4bn (€2.09bn, US$2.54bn, £1.9bn), Enlight Movie World will include a theme park based on Enlight IPs (which include films such as Ne Zhaand Looking Up, as well as themed retail and dining experiences.

There will also be a wide range of other entertainment experiences and attractions inspired by Enlight’s popular animated film properties, a family entertainment centre and expansive film and television production facilities.

The separate areas will be connected together by a series of ‘Art Gardens'.

Enlight has selected US-based Legacy Entertainment to design the attraction.

“Unlike studio-themed parks in America and Europe, which tend to look towards the past, the relative youth of China’s homegrown IP-based LBE industry is all about looking forward," says Eric Carnagey, Legacy MD.

"We have a unique chance to imagine and create the film studio and movie theme park of tomorrow by utilising Enlight’s prominent position as a China-based film production and distribution company, alongside its widely recognised IPs.

"This poses an incredibly exciting creative angle for our team to run with.

“We have the chance to create something completely new, because there are no rules in place.

"What is the studio-themed destination of the future?" asks Carnagey, "Working closely with a great collaborator like Enlight, we are looking forward to answering that question in new and exciting ways.”

Beijing Enlight Media is the parent company of film production and distribution business, Beijing Enlight Pictures Co Ltd.
