Code of conduct to preserve Welsh gorge
A new code of conduct has been drawn up by Forestry Commission Wales (FCW) to help protect Sychryd gorge near Glyn Neath, South Wales, from the impact of walkers.
FCW worked in partnership with the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority and the Countryside Council for Wales in order to draft an agreement that help conserve the area's ecosystem. The new code of conduct advises user groups where they can walk and also sets out environmental best practice.
FCW local area manager Paul Dann said: "In the woodlands, pressure from gorge walking groups, as well as the general public, can damage vegetation, eventually resulting in soil erosion. "If bare rock is exposed, then the woodland may lose its ability to regenerate."
