Wave Leisure are delighted to be able to announce that 20 individuals, small organisations and schools across the Lewes District benefitted from the Local Community Fund in 2011, with a total of £3000 being distributed.

An evening reception was held to present the recipients with their cheques and also gave an opportunity for the recipients of last year's awards to share how they had used the grant and the impact that it had made.

Recipients of the 2011 awards were:

1st Telscombe Cliffs Guides, Lewes Boccia Club, Newick Pre-School, Peacehaven Junior Netball Club, Seahaven Harriers Ladies & Girls Football Club, Friends of Downloands, Home Start South Downs, Carmel Jones, Up n Down Trampoline Club, Amelia Jenner, Meeching Amateur Dramatics, Seaford Downs Syndrome Group, Ringmer Stoolball Club (Junior Section), Newhaven Girls FC, Lewes Back to Basics Netball Club, Noah's Ark Nursery School, Lewes Toy Library, Naomi Lee, Drum Unity and Brighton Take Heart Group.

The fund is a small grant scheme that offers small clubs and organisations the opportunity to bid for up to £300 funding to assist in increasing participation in physical activity - getting more people, more active, more often. These can be awarded to small clubs, not for profit organisations, individuals or organisations such as schools and nurseries.

Wave Leisure Managing Director Peter Crowley said: "I am thrilled with the success of the Local Community Fund Grants, we have made a sum available for the community for the past few years and applications are on the rise. It is humbling to see so many individuals offer so much additional time and resources for the benefit of others, and to be able to assist is an honour for Wave Leisure."
