Community football project for Southwark
Synthetic surface specialist TigerTurf and sports equipment supplier Nike have teamed up to provide a new Sports Action Zone (SAZ) at the Lilian Baylis Old School in Lambeth, London.
The new facility is part of Sport England's ongoing community initiative for grass roots sports, launched in 2000 in response to recommendations from Central Government.
The SAZ director for the area, and former Great Britain athlete, Brian Dickens, said: "We are very grateful to TigerTurf and Nike for providing the fantastic new facility at the Lilian Baylis Old School project.
"The surface will be used by children in the local community who don't usually have access to this type of facility and has already proved to be a catalyst for social inclusion and community cohesion.
"We now have a fantastic new football arena to go alongside our basketball area and I have no doubt that it will a similar impact on the local children."
Former sports minister Kate Hoey, added: "The SAZ continues to make a real difference to the sporting opportunities of the residents in North Lambeth and North Southwark.
"We all hope that the continued work that is being done will mean sustained sporting benefits for everyone. I am proud of what has been achieved so far."
