Community group to give Durham leisure centre new lease of life
A leisure centre in County Durham is to receive a new lease of life after a local community organisation took over control of the venue from Durham County Council (DCC).
Ferryhill Community Partnership will now operate Ferryhill Leisure Centre after a bid was accepted by the local authority. It now be called Ferryhill Community Hub.
DCC head of sport and leisure Stephen Howell said: "This agreement is a reflection of the partnership's determination to secure these facilities for the local community."
Ferryhill Leisure Centre was one of six earmarked for closure by the council in late 2011 and is now the fourth to be subsequently transferred into community ownership.
