Community group to operate Derby sports centre
Derby City Council (DCC) has approved plans to transfer the management of Shaftesbury Sports Centre to a community organisation, subject to conditions.
In a report put before the council's cabinet on 15 February, it was revealed that a group had come forward with a view to taking over responsibility for the venue on a long-term lease. Councillors have now approved a proposal to offer the organisation a 20-year full-repairing lease, provided a "satisfactory" business plan is submitted and community use is retained.
It is expected the arrangement will save the council around £100,000, while a decision was also taken to reduce the opening hours of other Derby leisure centres.
