Construction begins at Hodson Bay’s new spa

Building work at the Hodson Bay hotels new E20m (£13.6m) spa extension in Athlone, Ireland, will begin in October.

The development will include a spa, a health and fitness facility and 54 new bedrooms, taking the hotel’s room capacity to 187 rooms.

Facilities at the spa will include a 20m swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, whirlpools, laconiums and ice showers. A number of saunas, steamrooms and scented showers will also be added.

Some final details of the spa, such as the number of treatment rooms, are yet to be decided, but treatments will include the traditional range of therapeutic body treatments, massages and body wraps.

The spa’s gym incorporates a number of aerobic studios and will overlook the water features of the pool deck and the Lough Ree shoreline. Details: www.hodsonbayhotel.com
