Consulting on the country code
The Countryside Agency is calling on people who are involved in visitor access to the countryside and land management to get involved in a consultation about the future of the Country Code.
Both the Welsh and English agencies are revising the current code to incorporate a code of conduct for people who will be able to use new access rights, that the Countryside & Rights of Way (CROW) Act 2000 introduced. The new rights are likely to be introduced in parts of England next summer.
Roger Ward, head of open access at the Countryside Agency, said: “With new access rights from the CROW Act likely to be introduced next summer in parts of England, it is extremely important that both people visiting the countryside and those managing it know what their responsibilities and rights are.”
The questionnaire for stakeholders is available at www.countryside.go.uk/access/questionnaire and for Wales at www.ccw.gov.uk and should be returned by 29 August.
