Corinthia Hotels has opened its first Italian property in a historic palazzo in Rome that used to be home to the Central Bank of Italy.

Corinthia Rome is owned by global private equity company Reuben Brothers. This is the second hotel in its portfolio to be operated by Corinthia Hotels after The Surrey, A Corinthia Hotel, which opened in New York, US, in September 2024. The agreement to operate the Roman property was signed in 2019.

The 9,700sq m hotel has been 60 rooms and a subterranean spa by Design Studio GA. Originally constructed by Pio and Marcello Piacentini between 1913 and 1921, GA has preserved the architectural integrity of the building and revealed mosaics, stuccoes, cornices and painted ceilings.

Corinthia Spa, Rome

The spa, which is open between the hours of 8am to 8pm daily, is located in the former bank vaults underneath the hotel. Spa consultant Paula Perkins worked on the facility before handing the reins to Kerry Turpin, Corinthia’s global head of spa, for the final year before opening.

The design echoes the Roman bathing era with hydrotherapy experiences, botanical aromas, laurel leaf motifs and soft golden light, which combine to create a calming atmosphere.

There are three treatment rooms, including a double suite, with treatment beds, trolleys and stools by Lemi. Beltrami has provided robes and pool towels and BC SoftWear supplied treatment linens.

The thermal facilities include a sauna, steamroom, ice fountain and hammam, as well as experience showers and two bathing pools, which were supplied by Starpool.

The skincare partners at the spa are Tuscan botanical brand Seed to Skin and clinical beauty brand 111Skin. Signature treatments developed by Seed to Skin include rituals are called The Chrysalis and Reverse Signature Facial.

The 24-hour gym features Technogym equipment.

There are also four heated loungers in the thermal area for relaxation, as well as a spa retail space.

Spa uniforms are by Dress Best and spa software is by Book 4 Time.

Rooms at Corinthia Rome start from €1,300 (US$1,417, £1,105) per night, with suites from €2,100 (US$2,289, £1,785).
