Sheffield tennis centre ready to serve the public
Graves tennis and leisure centre is set to open its doors to the public next week (1 September, 2016).
The £16m (US$21.1m, €18.6m) redevelopment, which will be managed by Places for People Leisure on behalf of Sheffield City Council, features 10 outdoor and eight indoor tennis courts, a six-lane 25m swimming pool, a separate learner pool, a gym, fitness studios, and a gymnastics and trampolining centre.
The investment is the biggest in leisure facilities for the south Yorkshire city in the last 20 years.
Sport England provided £2.75m (US$3.6m, €3.2m) towards the project from its Iconic Facilities fund.
The centre, which has taken 15 months to build, is on the same site as a new football ‘hub’ with outdoor football pitches, built in conjunction with the FA.
Places for People Leisure runs more than 100 leisure centres across the country.
