The City of York Council (CYC) is to decide whether to press ahead with plans for the development of a new multi-million pound community sports stadium.

Four options for the proposed venue have been identified as part of an outline business case for the scheme, which will be put before CYC's executive on 23 June and recommends that £100,000 be spent on compiling a detailed feasibility study. Among the options is a new 6,000-seat 'core' stadium to be shared by York City Football Club (YCFC) and York Knights Rugby League Football Club, which is expected to cost around £8.1m plus a further £1m contribution for athletics facilities either at the venue or elsewhere in the city.

Further options put forward the proposed venue could include the additional community sports facilities, health and wellbeing provision and a 120-bedroom, four-star hotel with conference and leisure facilities. The report said: "Demand for a shared core stadium for York City FC and York Knights RLFC, and the provision of a high-quality athletics facility has been established. A range of community and ancillary commercial uses have also been identified that might support the 'core'."

Funding for the scheme is expected to be provided by the council as part of its capital programme, as well as a potential £3m contribution from YCFC and a grant from the Football Foundation.
