Council to discuss football plans
St Edmundsbury Borough Council (SEBC) is to consider whether to contribute £1m towards a project that would see the relocation of Bury Town Football Club (BTFC) to a new ground.
The plans, which include the creation of a new community football facility for Bury St Edmunds, will be discussed at the council's cabinet meeting on 3 December. BTFC, which currently plays in the British Gas Business League Midland Division, is planning to move from its current home at Ram Meadow to a site at Moreton Hall.
As part of the scheme two floodlit pitches will be created along with a clubhouse and changing rooms.'Substantial' match-funding would be required from other sources, including the Football Foundation to finance the project. Lynsey Alexander, SEBC's portfolio holder for culture and sport, said: "Cabinet backing for this project will again underline our commitment to improving the wellbeing of our community by investing in facilities for sport and exercise."
BTFC chair, Russell Ward, said: "We appreciate that this project is still in the very early stages, and that an enormous amount of work will need to be done to take things forward."
