D+D launches Skylon restaurant
D&D London – formerly Conran Restaurants – will open a new restaurant at London’s South Bank Centre in May.
Skylon – named after the towering metal sculpture designed by Powell and Moya, featured in the 1951 Festival of Britain – will be located on the third floor of the Royal Festival Hall, which is due to reopen in June following a major revamp.
The restaurant will offer a formal 90–seat dining area and a more relaxed 120-cover grill area, as well as a 60-cover raised bar.
Skylon will feature a panorama of London’s skyline with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the River Thames and will be headed by executive chef Helena Puolakka. The Finnish chef previously worked at Harvey Nichols’ Fifth Floor Restaurant, Aubergine and La Tante Claire in London.
Conran & Partners designed the interiors, according to the style of the original 1950’s Royal Festival Hall. Details: www.skylonrestaurant.co.uk
