Dartmouth’s new £2.5m leisure centre opened on 9 October with a weekend of free activities.

Facilities at the centre include a fitness suite, dance studio, sports hall and outdoor sports pitches with their own changing rooms.

Richard Yonge, leader of the South Hams District Council, said: “Families in the area can now enjoy sport without having to travel miles to take part.

“It’s also fantastic to see how many local clubs have signed up to use the centre’s facilities – the take-up rate has already reached 90 per cent.”

The centre, which took 40 weeks to build, is fully accessible and was funded by Sport England, South Hams District Council, Dartmouth Town Council, Devon County Council and local fundraising.
