David Lloyd Leisure has opened the doors of Madrid country club, La Finca, which it acquired in September 2022.

A spacious health and fitness club, located in a suburban area 20 minutes west of Madrid city centre, it has undergone a multi-million pound transformation since acquisition to offer a wide range of family-focused health, fitness and racquets facilities, including two pools, match-quality tennis and padel courts, soccer, basketball and beach volleyball courts, a spa, gym, fitness studios, kids’ club, restaurant and outdoor seating areas.

Nearby developments also being developed by DLL include the city centre ABC Serrano club, which was also acquired in 2022.

This has also been refurbished and occupies a prime site on four floors above the Centro Commercial ABC Serrano. This club targets affluent city professionals looking for high end fitness and wellness facilities closer to their workplace.

The third site – former Club Santana site in Las Lomas, Madrid – is also currently undergoing refurbishment and will reopen later this year, bringing DLL's Spanish estate to eight.

The acquisition of multi-site businesses is a key part of the DLL strategy, with CEO Russell Barnes previously telling HCM: "Growth via single-location new-builds is infinitely harder in Europe than in the UK, so we’re looking to acquire multi-site operators where we not only get an immediate foothold, but also local expertise and a management team that comes with the business."

David Lloyd Leisure has 130 clubs – 101 clubs in the UK and a further 29 clubs across mainland Europe, comprising three brands David Lloyd Clubs, Harbour Clubs and Meridian Spa and Fitness in Germany.
