Designs of Tottenham stadium revealed

Detailed design of the new 60,000-seat stadium for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club have been revealed.

The stadium, part of the Northumberland Development Project, is designed by architects KSS Group and includes a club museum, shops and homes, as well as facilities for the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and public space. The new stadium will be built on 20 acres (8.1 hectares), which includes the current 36,000-seat White Hart Lane stadium and surrounding industrial area.

Club chair David Levy said: "My priority is to re-create the atmosphere we have at the current stadium. This means designing a stadium which has supporters as close as possible to the field of play and not simply looking to chase headline capacity. Our fans will find themselves closer to the pitch than any other comparable stadium in the UK. "In addition to the stadium, we are designing great facilities within the overall masterplan that will add positively to the local environment and play a role in the regeneration of the wider area."

KSS has also been contracted to design the £30m Tottenham Hotspur training centre for a 65-acre site at Bull Cross Enfield. The 7,600sq m facility will cater for both the team and youth, as well as offering hydrotherapy and medical facilities. David Keirle, chair of KSS, said: "They key driver (for the stadium's design) has been to deliver the best possible fan experience. The roof has been designed to focus the noise back onto the crowd and onto the pitch. All seating is enclosed, there are no open corners, so everything is focused back onto the pitch.

"This development is more than just somewhere the team can play football. The Northumberland Development Project will deliver substantial investment for the future of the borough and will benefit the community." The plans will enable the team to remain at the current site, which was first opened in 1899, throughout construction.
