Dilmun Water Park set for summer completion
The Al Areen Holding Company is set to complete the US$50m (£25.7m, 37.5m euro) water park at its tourist development in Bahrain this summer.
The 2,000,000sq m (21,528,000sq ft), US$1bn (£515m, 751m euro) Al Areen resort will comprise a 77,000sq m (828,800sq ft) Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park and a Banyan Tree Desert Spa & Resort, as well as residential, commercial, recreational and entertainment facilities.
The water park will include the region’s first wave pool with a sandy beach; replicas of Mesopotamian and Macedonian ruins, complete with water cannons and slides; a play area featuring slides, water sprays, water curtains, mini-tip buckets; and a Grecian dancing fountain with 20 jet nozzles spraying water up to 3m high.
The wave pool will be surrounded by a 320-m (1,050-ft) long lazy river, which will meander through a series of themed tunnels featuring wall paintings and replicated ancient artefacts and treasures, accompanied by sounds and visual effects.
Malaysian theme park operator Sim Leisure Consultants will operate Dilmun, while Canadian-based White Water West are supplying the water park equipment. Details: www.alareenresort.com
