Disney topiary at 2003 Epcot Festival
Walt Disney World Resort in Florida is exhibiting its topiary creations - first planted from seed by Walt Disney, at the 10th annual Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival.
The festival includes floral displays, flower-power music, seminars by gardening experts and the Disney topiaries inspired by favourite creations from Disney classics such as Fantasia and 101 Dalmations. Topiary couple, Mickey and Minnie, will welcome guests to the event.
During the festival guests can see more than 60,000 bedding plants in a floral artistry of 'The Power of Flowers' and young gardeners can practice their skills in the newly themed Kid's Garden with daily butterfly and ladybird releases.
A menagerie of topiary animals join Disney stars such as Mickey Mouse in the backstage growing areas at the Walt Disney World Nursery. Disney artists create the shapes to become blueprints for the wire framework that supports each topiary figure. Gardeners then prune the figures fashioned out of sphagnum with creeping fig and English ivy with wax-leaf begonia flowers. Details: +44 (0)20 8222 2829.
