District council fills leisure centre funding shortfall
District council funding has secured Deeping Leisure Centre's future until 2016, after Lincolnshire County Council pulled funding for the Deeping St James facility.
The leisure centre had received £124,000 annually from the county council to provide swimming lessons for local school children but this will cease from March 2014 due to budget cuts.
A spokesman for South Kesteven District Council said: "We are disappointed that the county council is withdrawing funding but our commitment to sport and leisure throughout the district remains strong and we will meet the shortfall until the end of the contract with our leisure providers in 2016."
The leisure centre is managed by Leisure Connection and includes tennis, badminton, squash, table tennis, gymnastics, group fitness studios, a sauna, crèche and function rooms.
The district council currently contributes £262,000 towards the running of the facility.
