Drinks giant posts upbeat interim results
Drinks group, Diageo, owner of brands such as Guinness, Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff and Baileys, has announced encouraging first half, pre-tax profits.
During the six months to the end of December 2003, operating profit for the group climbed to £1.16bn from £1.1bn the year before, while pre-tax profit was £1.26bn.
The group has focused solely on its premium drinks business, after offloading fast food chain Burger King in December 2002.
In a statement, the group said: “The results reflect the strength of the performance platform Diageo has created in premium drinks.” Details: www.diageo.com
